The 950-year-old Bayeux Tapestry is set to embark on an unprecedented journey to London next month, with French officials taking extensive precautions to ensure its safety. The tapestry will be placed in a custom-built, double crate to protect it from damage during the 560km journey.
The culture ministry in Paris has conducted two dry-runs with facsimiles, overcoming technical difficulties and alleviating concerns about the tapestry’s fragility.
