Ticketmaster has reassured New York Knicks fans that they will be allowed to attend Game 5 of the NBA finals in San Antonio, Texas, despite initial concerns over ticket purchase limits.
The ticketing company had stated that purchases made by individuals living more than 150 miles from the San Antonio arena would be canceled and refunded without notice, sparking panic among Knicks fans traveling from New York.
NBA Ticket Restrictions
The restriction, aimed at giving local fans better access to tickets, has been in place since the NBA playoffs began in April, according to the San Antonio Spurs.
However, the policy caused outrage after it was reported by US media, prompting New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James to speak out against it, with James demanding that the Spurs remove the policy to allow all fans to attend.
A spokesperson for the Spurs clarified that while the restriction applies to new ticket purchases, it does not affect tickets that have already been bought, and Ticketmaster confirmed that no tickets purchased on its platform would be canceled.
Game 5 Attendance
After the reassurance, Attorney General James expressed her relief that Knicks fans would be able to attend the game, writing “I’m glad our Knicks fans will be able to attend the game tonight in San Antonio. Go Knicks!”
The incident highlights the challenges of balancing the needs of local and traveling fans in high-demand events, and the importance of clear communication from ticketing companies and event organizers to avoid unnecessary panic and confusion.
