A nearly two-year investigation into the deadly Eaton Fire has concluded that an electrical issue with a Southern California Edison transmission tower sparked the blaze, which destroyed thousands of homes and killed 19 people in the Los Angeles suburb of Altadena.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department’s findings, released Tuesday, determined that electrical arcing on the out-of-service tower caused hot metal particles to fall onto dry vegetation, igniting the fire. The investigation was conducted jointly with Cal Fire and analyzed Southern California Edison’s electrical systems, as well as photographic and video evidence.
