A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Greece for the murder of a 38-year-old British woman, whose body was found in a suitcase in an abandoned building in Athens.
The suspect, identified as an Afghan national, has confessed to his actions, according to Greek police. He was arrested after police analyzed video footage and found evidence of his involvement in the crime.
Greek Murder Investigation
The victim, identified as Elisabeth-Jane Ross from Scotland, had been living in Greece since June 26. She was last seen on July 10, when she left her friend’s home in the Piraeus area to visit her “American friends” in Kypseli.
Police found the suspect after reviewing video footage, which showed him placing the body in a suitcase and transporting it to the abandoned premises. He also used the victim’s bank cards to withdraw money in the days following her death.
A search of the suspect’s home turned up a replica pistol and a knife, according to police. The suspect claims he found the victim already dead, but police have charged him with intentional homicide, robbery, and firearms violations.
International Cooperation
The investigation involved cooperation between Greek police, Interpol authorities in the US, and law enforcement agencies in the UK and Scotland. The victim’s fingerprints were identified with the help of US authorities, despite advanced decomposition and adverse environmental conditions.
