New York City police are investigating a series of bizarre incidents where groups of men have been caught on camera climbing out of the city’s sewer system in Brooklyn and Queens.

The men, believed to be treasure hunters, were seen removing manhole covers and descending into the sewers, only to re-emerge hours later, according to surveillance footage.

Authorities say the individuals may be searching for valuables underground, but the exact motives and identities of the groups remain unclear.

A spokesperson for the city’s Department of Environmental Protection warned that entering the sewer system is both illegal and extremely dangerous, citing hazards such as noxious gases, unstable surfaces, and flooding risks.

Investigation and Implications

The New York Police Department has received reports of several incidents, with the individuals fleeing the scene in unknown vehicles, and no arrests have been made yet.

If caught, the men could face burglary charges, and the ongoing investigation aims to determine the extent of their activities and potential connections to other incidents.
